Example 1: A Singaporean Alpha plan member contracts stomach cancer in the field. She wants to move back to Singapore to fight the illness closer to family. Alpha provides the care she needs in Singapore and facilitates a smooth transition. |
Example 1A: A Singaporean Alpha plan Restricted Territory option member contracts stomach cancer in the field. She wants to move back to Singapore to fight the illness closer to family. However, the Restricted Territory option does not provide any cover for treating this condition in Singapore. Also, switching to the Alpha plan at this stage will not allow this condition to be covered in Singapore, as it would be considered a pre-existing condition in Singapore. This is a very upsetting situation. |
Example 2: A British Alpha plan member develops heart disease in the field. He wants to go for a 2-month furlough in the UK. Alpha Standard provides the care he needs in the UK with preferential access to private medical treatment or the National Health Service. He can also travel, knowing that he is covered should something happen with his heart. |
Example 2A: A British Alpha Restricted Territory option plan member develops heart disease in the field. He wants to go for a 2-month furlough in the UK. However, should he have any issues related to his heart disease while back in the UK, this would not be covered under the Alpha Restricted Territories option. He is not covered by the NHS as he is no longer Ordinarily Resident in the UK. This situation creates a lot of stress and anxiety. Again, switching to Alpha Standard at this stage will not allow this condition to be covered in the UK, as it would be considered a pre-existing condition. |
